5th Metatarsal Fracture - Essential info, expert advice and product recommendations

What is it?

The foot consists of five metatarsal bones that span the arch of the foot. A fracture is a crack, break or chip to a metatarsal bone, typically on the 5th metatarsal, located on the outside of the foot that connects to the little toe.

Why do I have it?

Metatarsal fractures occur over time when repetitive stresses are placed on the structures of the foot and result in microscopic damage to the bone.

When does it hurt?

Weight-bearing activities such as standing, walking or running will worsen pain.

The Bracing Experts Advice

A ‘walking boot’ is an acceptable treatment option which stabilizes the foot and relieves stress, while allowing healing.
