Peroneal Tendonitis - Essential info, expert advice and product recommendations

What is it?

Peroneal tendonitis is an inflammation or irritation of the peroneal tendons that run along the outer side of the lower leg. These tendons are responsible for stabilizing the foot and ankle. Overuse, injury, or strain can cause pain and swelling around the outer part of the foot and ankle.

Why do I have it?

Peroneal tendonitis is often caused by repetitive stress on the peroneal tendons, which can happen with activities like running, jumping, or lateral movements in sports. Poor footwear, flat feet, or sudden increases in activity level can also contribute to the development of the condition.

When does it hurt?

Pain from peroneal tendonitis typically starts on the outer side of the foot or ankle and worsens with activity, particularly when running, pivoting, or engaging in sports that require quick movements. You may feel pain during or after exercise, along with swelling or tenderness.

The Bracing Experts Advice

For peroneal tendonitis, choose a brace that offers compression and stability to reduce strain. Rest is key, along with stretching and strengthening exercises. Supportive footwear is essential to prevent re-injury.
