Plantar Fasciitis
WHAT is it?
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. The plantar fascia spans the length of the foot, attaching to the heel bone and metatarsals (toes). When the plantar fascia is strained it can cause swelling irritation and varied degrees of pain in the bottom of the foot.
WHEN does it hurt?
Weight-bearing activities will worsen pain, especially after prolonged rest or inactivity. Individuals with plantar fasciitis usually have pain in the morning following waking up.
WHY do I have it?
In many cases the cause of plantar fasciitis isn’t clear. Fallen arches, an increase in weight, age, post-pregnancy and childhood developmental abnormalities are all possible causes.
