WHAT is it?
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis in the knee and involves bone-on-bone rubbing of the femur (thighbone) and tibia (shinbone).
WHEN does it hurt?
Daily movement involving flexion/ extension of the knee causes the bones to rub together and can cause varying pain in individuals.
WHY do I have it?
“Wear and tear”. The natural cushioning between joints, called cartilage, has worn away. This causes bones within a joint to rub together causing inflammation and pain. Age, genetics, repetitive stress and gender are contributing factors to OA.
